One of my regrets is not getting that on film - heck - I do portraits not film - but I digress.

CHICAGO - my kind of town - indulge me for a second.

I grew up in Chicago. I have a LOVE of my hometown. It amazes me that each time I visit, I see something I didn't see last time I was there. Yes, I am a little romantic about that town.

Today I had the honor of photographing the daughter of someone who also calls Chicago her home. Funny - I think we are still so young - and when I see our kids it just takes my breath away. This young lady looks exactly the same as Mom did at the same age. She oozes confidence and spunk (just like Mom) and has just made my day.

I want to share some of these portraits we took today:

I can tell you this much - Chicago has one million places we can take portraits. Getting to see art in just the most random spots, well that is just the most fun in the world. It was funny - on my drive in and my drive out I think I saw 4 other photographers taking portraits - and I wanted to run over and say ohhhhh let me see - because as much as I love getting to do what I love - I love even more getting to see people see how I see them through my eyes.

That being said - today - well it was magic. Thank you to a friend from age 4 - Thank you to a NEW friend ages 8 and 10 - and THANK YOU to C - and thank you to YOU for stopping by.

I love sweaters and falling leaves and chill in the air. I LOVE football games and cheerleading sidelines and homecomings and band. Growing up in Chicago afforded me the chance to LOVE the midwest and our seasons. I know deep down we will have at least one more heat wave - but I also know that the leaves are perfect for pictures only for a short few weeks - so no pressure - but if you want family portraits outdoors - you need to figure out your schedule soon.

Naperville Family pictures are my favorite time of year. First because it's FALL and second because I get to see all the kiddo's and families we've photographed year after year. We've been doing this a while in Naperville and we have an awesome following.

This morning we had the chance to do some AWESOME portraits of our good friends - the "S" family. They were such fun. It's great to see all the kids and families out and about on a crisp autumn day - makes me get all excited about all the parties we have coming up here in the coming weeks.

Naperville Kid Photos

I am the Naperville Kid Photographer.

Let me share with you a little secret. Tomorrow is picture day. I am buying those school pictures. I made a $4 investment and I will get something almost worth $4. I HAVE to get the school pictures. And honestly, my kiddo would love to be the subject of my portraits every single day. Those pictures are, well, they are fine. They are the rights of passage. They are the pictures that go in the scrapbook that make you sigh and remember exactly the moment in time that you got ready for those pictures. I looked around the ice cream shop tonight (we went to Oberweiss for my birthday ice cream) and I saw a half dozen of kids with their front teeth missing. They were all about my babies age and they might just be getting their school picture tomorrow too. That picture of Bobby or Suzy is just as important as anything. True that I've seen Moms and Dads actually embarrassed to show their school picture - but I bet you right now you have more than one of those in your wallet.

I am the Naperville kids photographer. I am your 60564 photographer. I am your maternity photographer, your baby photographer, your infant photographer, your toddler photographer, and I am your Naperville Kid Photographer. The portraits that I take are proudly hung from the mantel and shown with elaborate lighting not stuffed in a wallet and sheepishly pulled out when your embarrassed into showing off your child. Let me take a moment and tell you about the most surprising unsolicited review I recently received. First, a few things about this woman.

I met Dana through a Naperville Mom Networking site. I was #26 joining this site almost 2 years ago. It's a great site for Moms and families in the neighborhood and has been a valuable resource for my friends and family.

Dana and I met and clicked immediately. Her giggle is contagious. She has that charisma where at a party or group of friends you find yourself drawn to her side. She's beautiful inside and out and really cares about everyone she meets. Dana is real. Dana is genuine. I really like Dana.

Naperville's BEST senior pictures

Class of 2011 has days left. Had a conversation with a lovely girl from Waubonsie today - she helped me fix a piece of jewelry - and shared her excitement that she only has TEN official days left of school. I remember those days - the excitement of new beginnings and endings and all the world has to offer. Do you remember that last month of school? I don't remember it being this cold - which certainly can keep spring fever at bay - but not for this girl...she had hearts in her eyes when she talked about the dress.

Speaking of the dress. Naperville Seniors have so many choices for THE DRESS. Back when I was a High School Senior - we had (embarrassed to say) ONE choice - I'm a little jealous - and a little scared because my little one is Class of 2023!!!!

We have finished photographing Neuqua Prom attendees for today - they are well on their way to the prom - and tomorrow we have Naperville North Senior Prom Pictures scheduled throughout the day. I LOVE photographing seniors - because they are just so much fun.

We hope you all have great memories - great photographs - and great graduations - CONGRATULATIONS kids - you deserve the best!!!

Relationships...

Do you remember the first time a friend in school moved away? My dear daughter said goodbye to Abby this past January and everyday I think of the good times (albeit not nearly enough years) that we spent with her family. I can, in an instant, go back to a giggle fest or two and be pulled from the rainy doldrums of this spring to a moment (or three or four) that just light up my day. I find myself driving over to Abby’s house to check if my good friend Misty can run to Biaggi’s for a bread pudding (ahhhhhh bread pudding ❤).

With a heavy heart, this week I am once again saying goodbye to not one – but three families. Each family has a different story but the core remains the same. Each started out as clients and ended up as friends. We have 4 different states we can visit now. I know I have wonderful photography friends in these states who I know will carry on my legacy. I will joyfully refer these families onto my fellow professional photographers who will embrace my extended family and treat them like their own. But not being a part of their next milestone – well it is sad for me.

What I get to do for a living – it’s not about ME at all – I know there is a legacy I leave – long after I am gone from this earth art I created will be shared and passed on for generations – this thought is very little about me – and everything about the incredible people I have the honor and privilege to have met and now say “I know.”

There are a few times in our lives that we can freshly go back to an instant and remember the touch, taste and smell. I know I have those instant memories from family pictures. It’s about freezing a moment in time. Whose creating a piece of your family history? I’d like to be your family photographer. I’d like to photograph your pregnancy, your infant, your toddler, your kindergartener, your grade school student, your middle school child, and your teenager. I’d be honored to take your senior portraits. I am dedicated to creating artistry you will be proud of sharing with your childrens children. Please allow me to share in your moments.

Thank you to those family members who entered our lives. Our life is richer knowing you. I have people I know I can still call – you will be deeply missed. I will always be here – as your friend.

I remember when my baby was born. She's going to be 6 in a few weeks. Every single moment is special. Today I spent time with "K" and her Mommy. Talking to them I am brought right back to those moments when my baby was 6 weeks old - just like "K" - seems like 2 seconds ago.

I had the chance to talk to Dr. Cathy about Motherhood.

My business tracks the photographs of motherhood. Dr. Cathy said she tracks the timeline and benchmarks of motherhood. (We have so much in common!)

Dr. Cathy says (paraphrased in my words) She has a number of patients who will come in and they are going through pregnancy. When your pregnant - and come into her office - having an adjustment has a systematic approach that just works.

When I was pregnant - I sought out treatment and found it to be a wonderful - helped ME through all those changes - your body is bending and twisting and turning - I felt amazing and cruddy all at the same time...I felt that Chiropractic treatment helped me ease the massive changes - and finding the right provider is as important as finding the right person through those critical nine months.

Dr. Cathy says, as a woman goes through the pregnancy – the stesses on the lower back are so much higher – as the body expands – many women have issues – having light adjustments – to relieve the changes. Your body truly makes such changes that can be assisted by chiropractic.

Many new moms and babies come in and work with Dr. Cathy –
Again – as you consider the birthing process – more often than not the stresses of birth are no different than when adults go through stress and drama – and Chiropractic can assist – sometimes a couple of adjustments are just what the nervous system needs.

Senior Portrits in the Western Suburbs of Chicago & Naperville

We had plans to go travel on our photoshoot this week - all our favorite spots around the city - we were going to take a road trip to some super cool and exciting locations - BUT it was 37 degrees, 30-35 mile per hour gusts from the east and raining. We decided maybe it was best to STAY IN the warm studio and do our sessions inside. I had the most fun!!!

This group of AMAZING young adults is working on many projects within our studio. We have incredibly exciting things going on here and I don't want to announce anything until it's ready to be announced (hint hint - VERY exciting stuff).

It's not to early for Mothers Day...

What is your favorite gift you got from your kids? I know that my little girl went with my husband and picked out (all by herself) a necklace and charm that has a big heart and a tiny heart on it. She got it from a local department store. It is the most precious piece of jewelry I own mostly because she lights up when she asks if I'm wearing it and I pull it out of my shirt and show her I am. Do you have a gift that you know is your favorite?

The most important gifts in our lives are the ones that last forever. Portraits with YOU in them - aren't just for you (or your husband, Mom, Dad, Aunts or Uncles) - they are for the kids too. When your kids see your swell up with pride - you have given them just as much of a gift.

Back in August we met the "C" family. You know how when you meet someone and just become immediate best friends. This is how it went with Mrs. C. We are good friends and I can't tell you how much better our lives are having them in it.

When I say how polite, well spoken and beautiful Miss "A" is - I can't begin to say enough about her family. The Naperville community of families is so much more than just neighbors - these people - regardless if they stay in our community - are lifelong friends. As we see some of our friends move on to other cities and states - we know that Naperville and our little community will never leave their hearts.

This month I have seen 3 of our close families to our studio move. Know that you will be missed and we will always have a special place in our hearts for you.

I still have the dress, the veil, the little white bible, and the mother of pearl rosary my dear Grandmother gave me. I saved these for when my little girl has her First Communion. Baby "K" joined us last week - she's absolutely divine...

We are crazy busy with newborn portraits - and each and everyone of the babies we've seen is absolutely gorgeous. Artist Kurt Perschke's REDBALL - a 15 foot inflatable red spehere placed strategically around spaces around the world - makes it's way to Chicago this weekend with sightings in Millennium Park. The REDBALL is in town until September 25, 2008 and the first person to submit a photograph (taken on YOUR camera or camera phone) will win a GREAT prize package (which includes a photo session taken with the LOLLIPOP REDBALL) -- the REDBALL is supposed to be at the Field Museum, Grant Park, Union Station, Federal Plaza and the Chicago Cultural Center.
